Martha Adams Sullivan, DSW,
has been named Executive Director of Fordham-Tremont
Community Mental Health Center, where she
has served as Interim Executive Director
since January 2007. With a background that
includes key positions in the New York City
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene,
Division of Mental Hygiene, other city
agencies, and the voluntary sector, Dr.
Sullivan brings a wealth of experience in
behavioral health leadership, education,
policy, planning, and program development.
Dr. Sullivan has extensive
experience in geriatric mental health,
chemical dependency and social services. She
also has a particular interest in and has
developed culturally competent, family
oriented services for older adults, women,
people who are seriously mentally ill and
people who are homeless. She has served as
Deputy Commissioner of the NYC DOHMH
Division of Mental Hygiene, and in HHC and
the as Director of the Gouverneur Diagnostic
and Treatment Center’s outpatient mental
health division, known as the Department of
Behavioral Health.
Educated in New York City,
Dr. Sullivan holds a Doctoral degree in
Social Welfare from the City University of
New York, Graduate Center/Hunter College
School of Social Work, and an Advanced
Certificate in Family Therapy/Supervision.
Widely published, she is adjunct Assistant
Professor at the Hunter College School of
Social Work, and a visiting faculty member
and consultant for other academic
institutions and city agencies.
Dr. Sullivan is a founder and
co-chair of the Citywide Mental Health
Coalition for the Black Elderly and serves
on the Governor’s Geriatric Interagency
Planning Council. |
